We jus came back from the QLC thinkbig 06 leader retreat. It was a spiritually enriching retreat for us leaders and do pray that we all gained something useful through the retreat and learn to apply to our various ministries.

- Sorry for my recent absence!

Hey guys, i'm back for a while. Been quite busy with alot of assignments and the qlc website. After the qlc website is up, it'll have a yf section which will be linked to a new kind of blog. So stay tuned. I understand that this yf blog is not as reader friendly as i would have wanted it to be.

So stay tuned for the new QLC website and Youth section!!! =] Coming later Ivan will leading a session. He has been pretty exhausted with ministry work so let's keep him in prayer ya.

Also, for those who do not know, pray for Charles as he will be leaving for Hainan during August for around half a year. His boss has posted him there to act as supervisor. We want to be thankful for the boss to look upon him with such favour but also pray that he will be safe and sound there. =]

Some updates!

LCS retreat was great! Even though I was quite skeptical of a combined retreat, I was pleasantly surprised by the warmness of seeing so many Lutherans together!

Also, this sunday is back to 10things! 8 blessings to claim.
Aunty Seok Hoon is leading the session. So look forward to something fun yet an good session of learning God's word.

Well, I personally have something to share. I've started a new online ministry called "God knows you" ministries. It's still under construction. Only the basic skeleton is up. The whole website should be up prayerfully by september 06.

But but but... I wrote an article under my inspirationals section already. It's actually regarding this painful world we live in. About how we still can see God working and doing His "thing" in such a world. =] It was inspired by last sunday's sermon preached by Aunty Seok Hoon.

It's a little lengthy but hey, I wanted some substance. haha.

I WILL NEVER WASTE MY FOOD AGAIN =/

This photo is the "Pulitzer prize" winning photo taken in 1994 during the Sudan famine. The picture depicts a famine stricken child crawling towards an United Nations food camp, located a kilometer away.

The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat it. =[ This picture shocked the whole world. No one knows what happened to the child, including the photographer Kevin Carter who left the place as soon as the photograph was taken.

Three months later he committed suicide due to depression.

This was found in his diary,

"Dear God, I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery. I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests.

I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted. "

Not sure if you guys had received this email. But this story really struck me. I think we often forgot how fortunate we are in Singapore. I'm not about to become some Civics and Moral Ed teacher but really, we take so many things for granted !!! =/

Updates on programme, 280506

-Publicity-

Coming sunday is going to be another interesting session by Seok Hoon. It'll be on "Tear down and break down"

You know how often we use the tongue that God gave us so carelessly! How sometimes words that is not edifying comes out of our mouth so readily. Sometimes we're not even aware of it.

This coming session should teach us to be more aware of what we say and also to help us remember God gave us this ability of speech to edify and glorify His name and not otherwise!

Let us learn together how to make full use of this gift that God has bestowed upon us effectively. See you coming sunday! =] Continue to invite your friends if they are interested! Good time to invite them for such topical discussion that is so relevant to our lives you know.

Reflection on Quiet Time Session

Hi guys, I hope you have gain some insights and knowledge about quiet time today. Thank You for being a good audience! I am thankful for you guys and also God's providence.

Want to take this chance to firm up some of the points that i've put forth and for those that had missed the session :

- Quiet Time is spending time with the Lord

- Just like any relationship, the only way to know someone better is through spending time, no shortcut

- Quiet time is not a duty, you will not enjoy spending time with someone if it becomes a duty isn't it?

- You can know and not grow, but you cant grow without knowing (this applies to our knowledge of God's word)

- Remove this "God can wait" attitude in our lives, do not leave spending time with God to the very last.

- I cant convince you how beneficial quiet time is, I only can tell that how spending time with the Lord consistently in RIGHT attitude has changed my life SO MUCH! You must experience it for yourself! =]

Do you desire to hear from God? Are you passionate about wanting His will in your life, above your own? Daily quiet time prepares your heart to listen. You may "hear" Him speak to you in those quiet moments…or you may hear Him through a friend or circumstance later in the day.

The sunday(210506) after this is gonna be a topical discussion on Quiet Time. Without revealing too much I shall say it's going to be different from the usual. Really interesting and new. Haha. I hope you guys can even encourage any of your Christian friends(if their church service/activities do not clash) to attend this session. Quiet time is a very important part of every christian's life!!!

Let us learn together how to make quiet time more of a joy than a duty.

This sunday we're going on the 10 Things a Christian should know.
"6 armours to put on".

It'll be interesting i think! The sunday after this will be presentation of skits instead of jus plain o' writings. I think it's a privellege that we're able to learn God's word freely u know. Dun take it for granted ya!

- Of reflections of Jesus in China video

Sorry guys, the video was more chinese friendly than we like it to be. Let me sum up wat are the key lessons.

- Not taking the bible for granted ; study it! not leave it to collect dust!
(China people had to walk for days just to get to read the bible man! And they had to share with so many others -_- .... thus they hand copy those verses and bring them back home! >.< )

- Proclaiming Jesus's name even amidst persecution
(They rather spend 20years in jail than to deny Jesus, what faith! in Singapore, we are fortunate to have religious freedom which we oh so often take for granted)

P.S One of the prisoners actually lived 20 years in jail and every night he jus sing the hymm "Old rugged cross" to get pass the night. (only 1 song)

Touching moments :
When prisoner heard God speaking to him saying "my grace is sufficient for you... my grace is suffucient for you... "

He was about to commit suicide and he told God that he had followed Him till the very end and that's all he can take.

Indeed, amidst all trials and tribulation, let us remember the GRACE OF GOD is SUFFICIENT for US! =]

Recently been communicating with her through email. This is what she said today :

I'm glad that she's alrdy better and halfway through the battle! Continue to keep her in our prayers! Pray especially for the jab next thursday. She'll be back very soon indeed! Amen to that!

Coming sunday 23th April we going to have a video presentation. The video is entitled "The Cross" : Jesus in China.

Heard that it's a pretty good video. Charles told me it's quite tear inducing. lol. Look forward to it ya. Indeed they are so many ways we can learn more bout God. =]

We're blessed to be able to worship and praise God freely in Singapore. Let's not that take for granted!

- Of being effective servants of God

3 things to note
- Christlike Character
- Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit
- Ministry Skills

I got this out of CWMC(condensed world mission course) held every wednesday in Church. Still 4 sessions left! I think those 3 points are very true. They must work in tandem to be a effective servant of God.

Without a Christlike character, we don't glorify God in what we do. =/ Let us all strive to focus on God and God only so that people can see the Jesus in us. Amen! =]

Without sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, we will be depending on our own guidance which is very limited and short sighted. Let us depend on the Holy Spirit which was given to us, to provide us divine guidance in our daily lives. We need to be sensitive to discern between the Holy Spirit's guidance and our own way of doing things. For God's ways are above us. =]

I must say personally I lack the sensitivity of the Holy Spirit, so i'm gonna work on it. Let yourself go and let the Holy Spirit led u instead.

With proper ministry skills, we are not just dangerous but also in danger. We lose faith in wat we do easily cos we cant do them well. We might also cause others to stumble due to inadequate training.

I think in whatever ministry we serve, we should seek to continually train ourselves to be better and more effective so that we can excel in that area of ministry and in turn glorify God's kingdom.

- of a new start -

Hi guys, I (Don) will be taking over this blog from Ivan as he doesn't have much time on his schedule to update this blog.

So I started off by giving it a facelift, hopefully that "light bulb love" image brings back fond memories. Do check back often. I'll update often.

The purpose of this blog is for me to update you guys with what's going with the youth and also articles that are meaningful and helpful in our walk with Christ.

- Updates on Aunty Julia -

Aunty Julia just went through chemotherapy last wednesday (5th April 06). So she's still recovering now. Let's keep her in our prayers. This period is going to be alot of ups and downs for her as she will feel really depressed after every session of chemo.

But indeed as Aunty Julia has said "It is in my weakness that I see God's strength".
If God intended the suffering of the servant, perhaps we can perceive the possibility that God will bring good that we would not otherwise have experienced out of our suffering.

"And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" - Romans 8:28

This should drive us deeper into dependence on God and stimulate in us a deeper compassion for those who are suffering.

- YF programmes -

As you may alrdy know, 10 things a Christian had been stretched and more topical discussions will be coming up in between. Do look forward to a topical discussion on quiet time held by me, seok and charles. It should be somewhere in May. We are trying to restructure our programmes to be more creative in our approach of teaching the Word of God. We hope each sesssion of yf will not be a routine but a exciting day to learn and hunger for God's word.

- Christian Articles

As i do read up alot (both online and offline), i post alot of my important revelations on my blog's Christian section here. Do spend some time to browse and read through. Alot of those revelations had shaped me into who i am today. All my thanks goes to our Lord Jesus Christ.

- Prayer List -

There is a prayer request list i've put up in my blog. Let us recognise that prayers move mountains! =] Please, if there is anything you like me or us (seok, me, charles, yuki) to pray for you. Please go here and leave your prayer request as a comment (it'll be moderated before display, we respect ur privacy).

When you say "My God", what do you mean? Is it one that is great enough to cover your entire life(every aspect)? Yes, God is a big God, but u gotta let God be that big in your life. Unless your God is that big, then He is too small.

When the disciples saw Jesus pray, they realized they did not know how to pray. They saw how much time He gave to prayer and what it meant in His own life. They saw Him go into prayer in one mood and come out in another. As a result of His prayers, they saw things become different.

To them prayer had been a form but to Christ it was a FORCE!!!! Remember that how much you prayer will almost directly equals to how much you're reliant on God. The symbolic meaning of prayer is dependence on God.

Do you let prayer become a FORCE in your life? Or do you think you can make it on your own?

Let us spend some time to reflect on how big we let our God be in our lives...

Dear Yfers,

As you all know of aunty Julia's condition , she will not be joining us for youth for a period of time. But I know you all care for her like i do, and now is the time to lift her up in our prayers. This is a trial for all of us, not just for her and her family. And that we should earnestly pray and ask God to intervene for all this.

But I ask of you not to focus in your sorrows in her plight, but look to God. For he sent his son to promise us salvation as he took away our sins. For the penalty of sin is death. Aunty Julia commented that " Even death, I will not be afraid". Such strength and faith that she possess! My friends, we all got something to learn from her. She is not afraid because she knows the lord when she sees him. God did not give us illness, evil, suffering... we brought them on ourself when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God.

Pray for her family's support to continually pray for her recovery.
Pray for her walk with the lord for this period of suffering.
Pray that through this hardship, God may be glorified!

We can take further comfort in the knowledge that our suffering is not meaningless. In spite of the way things appear at times, God is still in control, and he uses our hardship to accomplish his purposes, both in our lives and in the lives around us.

Read Job 1-2 , Job didn't know why he was suffering, but we see in Job 1-2 that God was in control of everything that was happening to him. God's purpose were being worked out through Job's hardship.

Indeed God is in control of everything. Have faith my friends that Aunty Julia will get well, Have faith as Aunty Julia did.Have faith in the one true saviour, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Uncle Kit shared about "just doing it". We all say, one point of time or another, that we leave it to God's timing.But then, what is God's timing?

Is it a excuse to procrastinate? No my friends, let us not sit down and think of ideals, get on your feet and do them. Remember, if it glorifies God, then God will bless you all the way.
